Indinavir
Protease inhibitors (PIs) are a class of antiretroviral medicines primarily used to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections. They work by blocking the activity of the HIV protease enzyme, which is essential for processing viral proteins and producing mature, infectious virus particles. By inhibiting this enzyme, these medicines prevent the formation of functional viruses and reduce viral replication in the body. Protease inhibitors are commonly administered in combination with other antiretroviral medicines as part of combination antiretroviral therapy (ART). Some commonly used protease inhibitors include atazanavir, darunavir, lopinavir, ritonavir, and saquinavir.
