Quinine
Cinchona alkaloids are a group of naturally derived compounds obtained from the bark of the Cinchona tree and primarily used for their antimalarial properties. They act against malaria parasites by interfering with haem detoxification and disrupting essential metabolic processes within the parasite. These medicines are particularly associated with the treatment of malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum. Important cinchona alkaloids include quinine, quinidine, and cinchonine. Quinine is the most widely used medicinal compound in this group.
